The European Centre for Contemporary Art (ECCA) strives to discover and foster artistic ideas for the future, emerging from three areas of artistic and curatorial work:
researching, learning and creating.

Vision & mission
Based in Cluj-Napoca, in the eye of the Carpathian mountain vortex, ECCA follows a constellation model of research methodologies and collaborative curatorial and artistic practices to create new artistic knowledge. Born out of a diverse and dynamic cultural context, ECCA embodies a mode of working across fields, expanding networks and transgressing territories on various coordinates.

Institutional Design

ECCA is an institution in the making. Currently designing a concrete meeting place in Cluj, a pilot space in form of a pavilion, a salon or an office, ECCA evolves into a project space and museum.

Archives
We support, build, present and research artistic and curatorial archives to learn from the past, spread forgotten knowledge and inspire the present and future.

Platforms
We infuse, inspire, instigate and generate new artistic and curatorial platforms dedicated to the intersection of exhibition making, artistic learning and research as well as discourse shaping.

We encourage, facilitate, safeguard and showcase artistic and curatorial experimentation to liberate perspectives and to imagine daring new ways of understanding.

Community
Born out of a diverse and dynamic cultural context, ECCA encourages a collaborative and participatory relationship between public and institution. ECCA is shaping up firstly as a meeting place for the cultural community - artists, curators, mediators; urbanists, architects, sociologists and restaurers - working together for the launching of the new institution.
